Level 5 developed the remastered version of Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch for Microsoft Windows. It was released on 20th September 2019 along with a version for Nintendo Switch. The original was released in Japan on November 2011 for PS3. It is a role-playing game with animated sequences by Studio Ghibli.
The Gameplay
The compelling plot and gameplay of Wrath of the White Witch made the game one of PS3’s best sellers in Japan and other regions. It’s an adventure told from a third-person perspective where a young boy travels through a magical world, trying to save his mother. Oliver lives in Motorville with his mother when tragedy strikes. He finds himself deep in a magical world that is filled with creatures called familiars. A player has to navigate between Motorville and the other world by foot, on a dragon or by boat. You have to complete quests to get close to defeating the evil wizard Shadar. Players have several characters that they can control during battles, including the familiars. You have opportunities to level up familiars and arm them to help fight enemies along the way.
New Features
Part of the reworking is an enhancement of the graphics, which make an already beautiful game even prettier. The animation is still by Studio Ghibli, so players can expect the same high standards that were present in the original. Anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering contribute to clear, smooth graphics. The transition from in-game graphics to animated sequences is immaculately seamless. Studio Ghibli added new animated cut scenes that are pure art. Joe Hisaishi, a long collaborator of Studio Ghibli, did the soundtrack, which is another captivating aspect of the game. Not many changes come in the gameplay. The remasters for PC and PS4 have 4K resolution graphics and a frame rate of 60 fps. Besides the aesthetics, this remastered version doesn’t offer anything new to work with in terms of abilities, features or missions. The combat remains multi-layered with the player, depending on the AI for some of the fights.
Ni no Kuni Wrath: of the White Witch Remastered is a chance to experience the award-winning game, but with advanced graphics.
